The custom millwork for this hotel reception desk draws inspiration from the Hawaiian word Pahoehoe, which describes the smooth, unbroken forms of basaltic rock created by a volcanic lava flow. The concept is reflected in the design through the use of richly textured surfaces, including fluted bare lava stone, scratched coral stone, and smooth, polished stone, creating a dynamic contrast between raw and refined elements.
